The Nikon factory that makes the high end Digi-SLRs was damaged, but not terribly so. From what I gather, it was mostly fall and break type damage. However, there is no power, no infrastructure, and most importantly ( and worst), some large % of the employees are either missing or worse. Once the power comes back on line, the infrastructure comes back up, the damage repaired, the facilities cleaned, and employees hired and trained, production will go ahead. This particular factory also makes the Pro level Lenses.... ( don't ask me which, I am only reporting). This is a big blow to Nikon....and the production line will be down for some time.... The Canon factory that was in the same area, was reported to have only made accessories for cameras... Probably the same damage, but less corporately devastating. Canon is a much larger company than is Nikon. Frank Filippone Red735i at earthlink.net
