This is a project that started at the end of April to rebuild and improve upon a darkoom that closed, which left no place for people without a darkroom at home or current enrollment in a school to be able to walk in with a roll or sheets of film and leave with prints that they made. We now have complete facilities for B&W film and print processing and there are users that do color and alternative processes. This Wednesday, October 26th we're having our weekly open house called "Print Out" from 7-10pm. This is when current users, the curious and staff meet. And as always, if you bring paper and negatives, printing is free. As a work in progress, we're looking to increase awareness, membership (which keeps the doors open) and to spread the joy of having complete control of every step between taking a photo and making a print. The perfect mix of users is everyone- from those that have never used a real camera to experts who have been in the field for decades. This is how and where people really get to learn. Also, if anyone here has run a community darkroom, I'd love to hear from you. Our site is www.chicagocommunitydarkroom.org and we can be located on facebook under Chicago Community Darkroom. Thanks, Ken
