In view of the otherwise superb engineering of Leica product, this is 
a bit shocking. If you want to communication motion (rotary, 
longitudinal, or both) without exposing to the elements (shutter 
release and shutter speed), there is a simple sealing device, known 
since 1945, called an O-Ring.
