She wasn't driving -- her grandson had pulled over for her to add cream to the coffee. She initially asked only for $20,000 to cover her medical expenses and time lost from work. McDonald's refused her initial request as well as several other attempts to settle out of court, ergo, the lawsuit that made her famous.
