Yes, and one of those factors is how good the economy is when you enter.  
Of course education, field of work, etc., also matter.  Many of which you 
can control.  What the economy is like is completely out of your control.

Stated another way:  I would be much better off looking for the exact 
same job I am looking for now with the exact same credentials if I could 
have done it in 2000 instead of 2010.  Not only in terms of specific job 
prospects, but lifetime earnings.
