No - the clarity setting (plus or minus) has nothing to do with it (you can 
actually put it on -60 and still have the effect).  Could potentially be:

- High altitude with an often self-polarizing sky
- Fluffy white clouds that hang around mountaintops
- Heavy in-camera filtration (G, X0, X1)
- Slow-agitation development
- Silverfast used in Superfine mode on the LS-8000
- Accentuated effects of the correction curve
- Accentuated effects  of PS downscaling.

This edge effect goes all the way back to the negs - but it definitely got 
more accentuated as the process continued.  I may try re-scanning on my 
Sprintscan 120 to see if a cold cathode light downplays it or resampling 
using smooth.
