Subject: [Leica] Lady in Red (B&W version)

I once saw a master class conducted by Daniel Barenboim. A young pianist 
accented a particular note, and Barenboim asked "Why??". The youngster 
replied: "Because I like it" The master scorned such an answer and wanted an 
analytic explanation. Finally, eliciting a reason why that note should be 
emphasized, the master suggested as an alternative playing the previous note 
extra softly.

All this is to say that analyzing a picture to discuss color vs black and 
white is not bulls...t.

Now as to the ones Lluis posted. Could you imagine an oil color artist 
looking at that colorless scene and painting it? The entire scene is black 
and white except for the red head, her scarf, and the sheeting in the boat. 
If he wanted the red head in color, the picture should have been cropped 
down to her and the boat. As it is, the color is just jarring. The black and 
white version is a fine picture.
