Many of us here in North Carolina will remind that we lost more men than any 
other state in that war and that we were dragged reluctantly into it by our 
immediate neighbors to the south and north

it was indeed about state's rights--the right of a state to allow the 
ownership, using, beating, killing, selling, and raping of one human being 
by another

while we find MANY valuable, admirable, and fine characteristics in the 
defense mounted here by our forefathers who so cared for their homes and 
families, humorous deflections of the truth are probably not desirable

yes, we lost, and thank god we did
