Strange, I have a different experience with chickadees. Next to the seed 
feeder, I have a coarse wire mesh feeder filled with peanuts. While the 
occasional jay clumsily attacks a peanut or two, the chickadee will stay on 
it, upside down some of the time, for minutes at a stretch. And, not 
paranoid like the finches; I can get surprisingly close before he/she flies 
away.
