I may have put in my original email that I was in classic mode and blowing most my highlights because a black wall filled the majority of my frame. When I switched to the new "advanced" metering mode, the exposure was corrected. This was one of the "good" items on my list. I really didn't pay attention to the lag difference between the two metering modes; just noticed that there was a noticeable lag in each using live view. As you have more time to test, I have no doubt you are right.
