Yes, of course, every time one is in a position to need to modify the 
exposure one uses manual. My point is simply that in lighting conditions 
where that is not the case, Auto and manual are the same thing. In my case I 
would imagine I change the recommended exposure around 10% of the time since 
the in camera meter is not always suitable and I don't carry an incident 
meter often.
