Let's not forget that 'automatic' has meant many things over the years.  A 
camera with a mechanically-timed focal plane shutter automatically sets the 
shutter curtain travel speed and slit width when the user selects a shutter 
speed; a CRF camera automatically adjust the rangefinder when the focussing 
control is turned.  This was advertised as an automatic camera.
