Senorita means simply "an unmarried woman". It was Hollywood to sexualize the word in the days of Ricardo Montalban through song and innuendo. "Chica and chico" ("small") are primarily children and young teenagers. I am not sure that LUG members are using the term senorita as a double entendre any more than the rest of the population. There are hundreds of South American songs that glorify the sexuality of women. Evidently, we are the only ones to make a fuss about it. Senora brings a note of respect. Not only for the marital status, but because it means "lady" as well. "Dona" (Don, for a man) is the ultimate title and commands the highest respect. All feminine appellations are written with a tilden over the "n". Joseph Codispoti joecodi at clearsightusa.com info at clearsightusa.com www.clearsightusa.com 805 400-9392 (mobile)
