The LUG YEAR BOOK was Jim's idea and a wonderful concept for so many never before published folks to have the exciting moment of seeing their photographs in print, in a "BOOK!" Complete with their name! It was never a great effort for anyone in posting two (2) photographs by midnight of the closing year. HOWEVER! DAMN! There were times I wished I could be so close to KICK-ASS so hard with some who diddled along making it tough on Jim whether he'd have enough to make the book in time and worthwhile! However? To accomplish the book completion it meant Jim sat by his computer each and every year of the past eight (8) so all our photos would make it into the book by the last seconds to midnight!! The rest of us??????? HELL we were all out having a wonderful hell raising New Year eve HAPPY TIME! And he did that for 8 years! Constantly begging, pleading, almost in tears begging........... "Please send your images by midnight!" As he sat there waiting out the seconds tick by for the last possible moments before he shut it off! In effect many of you non-likely ever to be published LUG members? It's a crying shame! As one's published photo with yer name is one of the most beautiful things you can acheive and admire in your life. I have, nor give one ioa of sympathy to all those ner do wells who just pissed away their time for a published photo that was so close at hand! SHAME ON YOU FROM ON HIGH! The book is available in a variety of papers, bindings, etc. to your own taste. A surcharge for each book will be donated to Project H.O.M.E., an organization that provides shelter, medical attention, and vocational training to homeless individuals. www.projecthome.org The second is an end of sorts. This will be the last LUG yearbook with me as Editor, Compiler, and General Haranguer. After eight years I?ve realized that it?s time to pass the torch. With a healthy number of contributors, it?s obvious that the yearbook fills a need for what is otherwise a virtual group?a tangible, large example of our pictures. It just needs a new shepherd, someone who can build on this ongoing annual tradition. The LUG Yearbook?s run would have been truncated after a year or two were it not for Dr. Ted Grant?s enthusiastic cheerleading?and oh-so-subtle suggestions that a group of photographers might want to submit an image or two in a timely basis. Our saloonkeeper, Brian Reid, has been singularly supportive with his encouragement, the FAQ page for the project, and his engaging annual essays. I can?t thank Ted and Brian enough for their friendship and help over these past eight editions. And I thank every participant from the past eight years. It?s been a wonderful experience. All best, Jim Shulman Wynnewood, PA _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group. See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information
