Lluis is a machine! By no means a scientific comparison either. But actually it's interesting. My anecdotal view is that the M9 is about a stop better for noise than the M8 and the M at least that much better again. More than enough performance for my purposes anyway. Meanwhile the Adobe raw engine probably has improved at least that much too. Also interesting to see the edge correction comparison (M9/M) in the current LFI. The M uncorrected probably starts where the M9 ended up in its last firmware, (which was very good). I really need to get out with my wides more ;-) Cheers Geoff http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman On 3 January 2014 02:11, Robert Adler <rgacpa at gmail.com> wrote: > Not a fair comparison; that M (type 240) was not feeling well that day? > ;-) > > > On Tue, Dec 31, 2013 at 1:20 PM, Geoff Hopkinson <hopsternew at gmail.com > >wrote: > > > Yes the M9 (and the other M's) firmware (assuming coding) is correcting > the > > images for vignette and colour cast (red edge or 'Italian flag' effects). > > There's quite a lot going on to make the images homogenous at all > actually. > > The level of correction was amended over the M9 firmware versions too. > What > > the M cameras don't do is apply any distortion correction (or have any > > options for dynamic range for example). > > Adobe's raw processing has made large strides as well.
