Not good, with about 2 ft of snow on the ground. My last 80/40 Dipole was taken down by a squirrel who ate through the center balun. Lots of trees to put dipoles in, and like you not enough time. I have a G5RV dipole that will go up in the spring, and probably another home brew dipole shortly after that. I'm really ready for warmer weather, as it has been terribly cold here this winter. Sounds like the new dipole is working quite well for you. I have had very good luck with them here, and usually put them up about 35 ft. My big problem is the squirrels who eat through the Kevlar guy lines. ;( Good luck with the new dipole, Gene ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Klein" <pklein at threshinc.com> To: "lug" <lug at leica-users.org> Sent: Wednesday, February 5, 2014 8:11:01 PM GMT -06:00 US/Canada Central Subject: Re: [Leica] IMG: My science project Hey, Gene, I knew you'd know what it is! :-) I used to have a better one 60 feet up in a tree. But a few years ago the tree tried to kill my house and only narrowly missed. So the tree had to go. I haven't had time to put up another until now. This one's only up about 25 feet. I've had quick digital mode contacts with Uraguay, Argentina, Japan and Asiatic Russia, so I guess it works reasonably well. Hopefully I will not attract the attention of either regulatory agency mentioned previously. No snow here, but it's very cold for Seattle--high of 32 today, lows down to 17 in the suburbs tonight. I will attempt to take a picture of the antenna with something on-topic when things warm up. --Peter > I have to install a new one myself as the squirrels have destroyed the last > two I had up.
