Whether you use wifi or wired the contacts and calendar are no longer synced
using iTunes. You have to use iCloud, which means you no longer have a copy
yourself on your hard drive which you can back up.
If you -do- keep a hard copy on your main computer, as I have for decades,
Mavericks now gives duplicate addresses, with no way of knowing which is the
latest, which is on iCloud or which is on the computer.
If you update the one on the computer (if you can work out which that is!)
it will -not- be updated on your phone.
I am really fed up with this.
I have been a big fan of Apple software in the past. I suppose 90% of their
profit comes from prattle devices these days but Mavericks is not the way I
would have liked to see OSX going.
I feel I have lost control of how I want my data to be managed.

OTOH in a fit of pique I tried an Android device and that software takes
removing the owner from the loop and doing exactly what it wants in the
background to an entirely new level!
IMHO Mavericks is Apple moving in a Google direction. Not something I
welcome.

Frank D.
