A couple of times a year (depending on how active the LUG is) I need to
close out an archive volume and open the next one. The volume number is used
for the web pages at http://leica-users.org and also for the digests.

It had become time to close out Volume 53 and start Volume 54. The process
is that I set up the new volume, wait for the arrival of a message to
actually open it, and then once I am satisfied that the new volume is
correctly configured, I close out the old one.

Since I only do this every 6 months or so, my memory of how it all works is
not reliable. I had created Volume 54 and was waiting for someone to send a
message to the LUG whose arrival would trigger its initialization. After
waiting an hour, I decided to stop waiting and just send a message myself.
So I did. Its purpose was to trigger the initialization of the next volume,
not to say anything.

It's all good, except that the 3/4 million messages in the archives are too
many for the search software I've been using and I need to find some new
search software that is written in a language my server and I can deal with.
