It's also fairly obvious which "reviews" carry a bit of substance; and which 
are simply puff pieces; especially if one has been reading the various 
"reviewers" over a period of years; or in some cases ? decades.

I do agree that "comparative 'reviews'" by experienced "users" have value 
(to me); just as the Comparative Literature course had value to me.
