Hermit Warblers spend winters in Mexico and summers in the western mountains from southern California to Washington state, generally in the tops of conifers. During migration they have to cross the lowlands and when crossing the deserts an oasis such as Agua Caliente county park draws them to water. This micro-flock of 4 or 5 birds (hard to count them, they move quickly and hide in the bushes) was intent on foraging for arthropods so I waited an hour until I turned into background scenery & the birds hardly paid attention to me. female: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/parulidae/setophaga/hewarb00.html male: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/parulidae/setophaga/hewarb01.html technical stuff: R8/DMR, 280mm f/4 APO-Telyt-R, 1.4x APO-Extender-R, monopod & shoulder stock.
