There is probably an option (somewhere) to leave blank rather than open a 
new template...

Hi John,

That is correct.  But my question arises when I have completed work on
the first selection, and save and close it.  Instead of returning to the
list of recent files, Excel presents you with a blank workbook.  I want
to eliminate that step, if possible.
