This was where the 10 were supported to have a 'creative dialogue' with ten masters from previous times (not all of whom are living of course) and their 10 images (each) were exhibited in the rather amazing new Wetzlar headquarters. Some very wonderful work and 8 of the 10 new generation were present for the official ceremonies. They were presented with personal M cameras as part of that. Also present were Elliott Erwitt who spoke. His opening statement was something like 'I have used Leica for 60 years and see no reason to change. I have used film for 60 years and see no reason to change'. I got to spend a fair bit of time with Nick Ut myself and he was also part of the celebrations of course. Nick seemed to like the Aussie contingent a lot. Perhaps that was in part due to the presence of the very lovely woman who is the marketing coordinator for Leica Camera Australia, ;-) He is in any case a really nice guy and is treated as a rock star in this environment. I recall something like 40 interviews that he did in two days alone. Not to mention drinking 18 year old single malt with me at the official activities last evening! More Leica Camera news in other posts to come for those who are interested. There is a completely new Leica M-A film camera for one item (and a steel Monochrom) and a new 28mm Summilux. Currently those are only in a very limited and expensive collector's set. (M edition 100, 2x bodies with 3 matching Summiluxes)The camera bodies are machined from a single piece of stainless steel I shall post some photos from the press releases.
