The shot shows "the morning after." A cloud of volcanic ash traveled 300 miles across the state, blotted out the sun, and dumped about one-quarter inch of gritty grey powder the consistency of flour or confectioner's sugar on Spokane during the afternoon of May 18. It had been pitch black from 3:00pm until sunset. We woke up to this.
