Some degree of focusing is possible, but you have to stop down or use a ND filter so the CCD doesn't bloom. Very grainy, heats up the sensor, and eats batteries. A recent firmware update now allows the use of USB with the back. I tether the back to the surface and run Capture 1. Fire off a shot and then look at the raw file on the surface a few seconds later. Double tap the Surface screen and view where you tapped at 100%. Double tap and back to the full image. The Surface only weighs 1-3/4lb. I also use focus mask and the two together greatly simplify tilt. Still use a dark cloth as the Surface's screen is shiny. Also helps with errant light between the Lee filters, especially the 10ND. I have a holder for the Surface on a tripod leg. Plastic and weighs nothing.
