About 2 and a half years back some defective LCD screens were identified from a single manufacturing lot (M8 and M8.2). They are out of production by the supplier (and no-one else made them I think) and the M9 screens don't work. The LCD being integrated with the electronics, it wasn't a matter of just a new LCD apparently in any case. So Leica Camera were offering deals on replacement M9 cameras to anyone with an M8 having the problem. They said at that time that they then stockpiled more spares of the M9 components with an aim to have those available for a minimum of 10 years.
