Hi Peter,
Good on you lad! Your explanation clears you of any "getting the picture
whether she likes it or not!" In effect she co-operated with you taking the
photo.
Damn fine photo!

cheers,
ted

Thanks, everyone. I think this photo is one of my all-time best. It
took a lot of dodging and burning to get right. When I saw the scene, I
could swear that the ghosts of HCB, Eisie and Doisneau were telling me,
"Peter, you *must* get this shot!" Not to mention the live spirits of
Ted and Tina! :-)

Scott Gregory, I'm pretty sure the woman knew I was photographing her,
and she did not object. Her car was parked next to ours. The first time
I approached, the dogs (there were two) jumped to the open window and
barked at me. She opened her eyes and saw the camera, which was raised.
I said "They are so cute," referring to the dogs. She said nothing. A
moment later, I saw her car lights were on and told her. Again, she saw
the raised camera, said nothing, turned off her lights, checked that her
car would still start, and went back to sleep. When the dog "assumed
the position" again, I took a couple of shots.

That said, I would have taken the photo whether she woke up or not. If
she had objected afterwards, I would have tried to persuade her
otherwise, told her how beautiful I found the scene, offered to send her
a print, etc.

What interested me was the combination of the woman and the dog. If
there had been no dog, there would have been no picture.
