I remember him from the civil rights era and always liked his work as a journalist. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/which-these-three-artworks-should-go-view-national-portrait-gallery-180952383/?utm_source=smithsoniantopic&no-ist I was a student at Louisiana State U. when James Meredith broke the color barrier at the U. of Mississippi in 1962, so this photo has particular resonance for me. Strong content, strong composition and some really great real-life portraits.
