Sorry mate the "BRITISH EMPIRE" no longer exists as it once did. Only in the
minds of Historians.
It's now "The COMMOWEALTH COUNTRIES" May I suggest you google it as you will
be completely surprised at how many countries/nations are all part of it!
cheers,
Dr. ted :-)

Subject: Re: [Leica] Don McCullin knighted
Margaret Thatcher banned Don McCullin from a military operation to protect
the British Empire, because his photography was essentially 'anti-war'. How
ironic that he now accepts a knighthood (Commander of the Most Excellent
Order of the British Empire)! 'Wars' and 'Empires' have gone hand-in hand
throughout history. If you want to put an end to war, how about questioning
the concept of the Empire? It's disappointing he hasn't done this.

Don is a long-time Leica user and a great photographer who was banned in
name by Margaret Thatcher from going to the Falklands war because he was
?too honest? and refused to have his images censored. I have met Don a
couple of times and he is a difficult man to warm to, but this honour is
well deserved and long overdue. A great photographer receiving a long
overdue award.
