Of all the people hauling massive DSLRs around the parade route, they assumed I was the guy from the paper. (though I assured them my pictures would never show up in the paper!) I guess the camera look is iconic enough to be equated with modern photojournalism--and that sort of connection sells cameras to the well-heeled, talented or otherwise.
