That in itself is not a problem. But it may explain the slow operation. Your computer was primarily made to sell to Corporate buyers? (banks, schools, etc.).??? You can add RAM.... That is both easy and cheap. This is, according to the specs printed by Dell.... the type of memory you need: Type DDR3? Speed1600 MHz Computer Configurations supported: 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB Usually there are 2 memory modules per configuration.? So a 8GB system contains 2x 4GB modules. You have 2 module slot locations in your 3847..... which means that to upgrade to 16GB you will need to purchase 2x 8GB modules. During the install of these, you will remove and dispose of your existing 4GB modules. Instruction as to where these are and how to do the swap are available on line from Dell.
