The policy began with Berek and continued to the present: Eric Welch has drawn my attention to the talk recently given by the current director of Advanced Lens Design at Leica, who has apparently convinced the Mavens of Solms to abandon this standard for the R lenses though, I hope, NOT for the M opticks!
