Subject: 100mm/2.8 R APO Macro question

Am a new owner of subject lens and want to add 1:1 magnification capability.
The dedicated Elpro unit is the obvious choice and will offer a ratio of
1.1:1. The APO-Extender, however, used with the same lens yields a 200/5.6
which can focus continuously from infinity to 1:1 ratio. Though more
expensive, the Extender would offer more flexibility (greater film plane to
subject distance and greater focusing range), not to mention the ability to
use it with other R lenses.

Question is, which approach yields the best results at 1:1? Any hands-on
comparisons would be appreciated.
