In the UK people often send valuable items from local Post Offices via
Parcelforce and send them Registered Post- which supposedly insures them
for up to UKP 500.00, or Registered Plus, which supposedly insures them
for up to (I think) UKP 3000.00. There was a TV programme recently that
spilt the beans and showed that it is actually quite rare for anyone to
successfully claim for such a loss.
