There are a fair number of "R" users on board, but you may have jumped in when some are traveling or busy. I am looking seriously at an R8 in my future but have held off for several reasons: 1) money 2) waiting to see if early purchasers report any difficulties 3) No motor drive until later this year (if I understand correctly) I got to handle one and "dry fire" it at a show in November and I was impressed, especially the ergonomics and the viewfinder.
