PRESS RELEASE

May 1997

Hot off the press!
ASMP's 5th edition of the Professional
Business Practices in Photography

If you had to have just one book on the business of photography, the
latest in the American Society of Media Photographers series of
publications is it.

The 416-page Fifth edition of the ASMP Professional Business Practices
in
Photography is being hailed as the most definitive and authoritative of
its kind.

As photographer Eric Meola says: "Most photographers obsess about
photography as art; the problem is that in the real world, photography
is
more a business. This book is invaluable in making photographers
understand that."

The book covers subjects ranging from assignment, stock, pricing and
estimating, negotiating fees and agreements, rights and value in
traditional and electronic media, formalizing agreements (with a range
of
forms and appropriate language), copyright, electronic technology,
business and marketing strategies, book publishing and professional
services. Also included is a comprehensive bibliography of software,
video and audio tapes, Web sites, directories and professional
organizations.

The chapter on stock photography is equivalent to the third edition of
ASMP's popular stock photography handbook and in addition to covering
all
aspects of choosing and working with agencies, producing and marketing
stock, and concerns of the industry today, it also contains five essays
by leading agency owners and stock photographers on the future of stock.

The book is essentially a bound and indexed version of the ASMP Business
Bible: A guide for professional media photographers which is produced in
binder form specifically for ASMP members as a member benefit.

A group of writers and other authorities well-known in photography
including Craig Aurness, James Cook, Scott Highton, Bill Hurter, Victor
S. Perlman Esq., Maria Piscopo, Roger Ressmeyer, Allen Rabinowitz,
Barbara Roberts, Peter Skinner, Emily Vickers and Richard Weisgrau
contributed to the book. Information resources included photographers,
stock and advertising agency personnel, attorneys, accountants, and
electronic technology experts. The book was edited by ASMP
communications
director Peter Skinner and published by Allworth Press.

The Fifth edition of the ASMP Professional Business Practices in
Photography is available from ASMP for $24.95 plus $5 shipping and
handling. For information contact: ASMP, 14 Washington Rd, Suite 502,
