Subject: Re: Re[2]: Replacement of PX625

Most European camera gear has inbuilt voltage regulators, called
compensated circuitry, which allows the use of alkaline and silver-oxide
cells in place of the mercury batteries. Most Oriental gear relies on the
precision of output from mercury cells and lacks this circuitry.

Thus, a LOT of Leica gear designed for PX625's and the like will function
perfectly well with silver-oxide or alkaline cells. The differences both
in voltage and in rate of drop will be adequately compensated.
