Tom,

You describe one of a number of M2 cameras made for the US Military. THe M2R was 
the overrun sold by Leitz NY as the M2R. The military ones were decommissioned 
and sold. They usually have cosmetic defects. I've had two, #1164757 whuch was 
stolen in 1987, and #1164287 which I use daily. Both function(ed) perfectly.
THey occur in thee 11643xxx and 1164xxx range.
