I've had the Canon 35/2, and got the 35/2.8 and 35/1.5, never had the 
35/1.8.
The 35/2 was by far the best, equal to a Sum,micron many said, I wouldn't 
dispute that.
I've rarely used the 2.8 but have the 1.5 in place on my second M body (I 
normally have a 35 Summilux on my M6), I think it's fine, sharpness isn't up 
to Leitz standards and there's interesting spherical abberations around the 
corners wide open but it handles well and does a reasonable enough job. I 
believe the 1.8 was an older (all chrome) affair wasn't it?
