Subject: After a cold night

I recall that we recently had a thread about the effects of bringing
indoors equipment that had spent the night in a cold car and how to
address the problem of condensation.

This morning I discovered that we really do need to be mindful that
temperature changes are not only a matter of outdoors - indoors. Because I
went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, last night for a business conference this
morning, I packed up the APO Televid and a pair of binoculars for some
early morning birding along the water before the meeting. I left the gear
in the car trunk overnight (yeah, yeah - I know, I know). Frost was still
on the car this morning but the air temperature was warm enough to go
about without hat and gloves. The metal and glass did not respond as
quickly as the human skin to the temperature rise. As a consequence, I
alternated between watching and wiping with both the scope and binoculars.

While I did lose the identification of a sparrow to the recurrent
condensation, I did manage to add one species to the life list.
