The only people who say that have never used one or don't know what a good picture looks like. It's actually a very good lens in normal light. Just big and heavy. But if you are needing something for low light work, nothing compares. It tames contrast much better than any other lens around. You will see details in your negatives your eyes never saw looking at the scene. I've been using a Leica M6 and 35 1.4 ASPH recently.
