All this needless concern about the possible dangers of using the Noctilux
in bright light. Do as I do, and use the lens cap as a neutral density
filter. The remarkable light magnification properties of the Noctilux will
see through the cap with no problem and allow the use of that non-negotiable
maximium aperture. This is the reason that Leica produces plain lens caps.
Nikon users who tried this technique with the 50/1.2 Noct-Nikkor will no
doubt recall with some embarassment the pictures they obtained by this
method that had the word "Nikon" across the middle...
