Tina,

Greece is a wonderful country, although it's beginning winter period
right now, with temperatures around 15 deg C, 60 deg F, and rainy
days. People are very friendly (if you avoid tourist centers), and
each place is fine, not just Athens with its famous ruins, or the
Butterfly Valey at Rhodos. If you like to do yourself a favour:
Visit one or two of the thousands of small islands, maybe Lesbos,
Karpatos (east side), Kreta (north). If you can manage, use one of
the small food boats, since you and your heart wouldn't want to miss
the harbor entrance from sea side: The small white houses with their
dark windows look like little ghosts from distance, welcoming you :)
The colors are simply great in Greece (you will not forget the color
impression), at least in the smaller villiages and on the islands.
If you have bad luck, and one of the rare winter storms comes while
you are there, care for a hotel, since the small and very cheap
pensions have no heating in general. Besides, if you go in a
restaurant in on of the small villages, they will guide you into
the kitchen, and make you look into each pot and oven for your food
selection. Food ships come Thursday or Friday usually to the small
islands, which means that the rich Friday, Saturday or Sunday
salad will fade out/away during the rest of the week :), leaving
tomatoes lasting longest :) Once again: avoid tourist centers, there
the sales persons are very agressive and cold hearted from experiences
with German, British, or Scandinavian tourists. Basically, the Greeks
are extremely friendly and warm hearted, and you will find it in all
non-tourist places.

Alf
