If you want to reduce focusing accuracy, then go ahead, remove it. :-)

That is proper behavior to use the 90mm frames. That's what makes the
goggles a good thing. You will find, from what I've been told that the
frames are close, but not exact. If there's a bit more, then at least you
get everything you think you're going to when shooting. Shooting with a
rangefinder isn't the same as shooting with an SLR, and this is one of
those tradeoffs.
