I would be afraid to take them outdoors, that's for sure. I've seen
$250,000 Rolls-Royces parked in supermarket lots next to the buggy rack.
Different people have different levels of tolerance for risk to things they
own. Many of my (pristine) lenses are over 30 years old and the front
elements aren't even available any more. I've changed scratched UV filters on
them several times over the years.
In conclusion, I have no problem with people not putting UV filters on lenses
for protection. Just as long as they're not MY lenses!
