Under the title "Old vs. New" "Viewfinder" 4/94, pp 38-39, compared 1939 and 1993 35 mm Elmars (f 16, 1/250 or 1/200, tripod, distance at infinity, Ilford HP5). The author Charles Isaacs found: "The 12x enlargements show that the modern Elmar gains in contrast over the older Elmar, but loses slightly in overall sharpness." My very special thanks to 10 yrs LHSA member Marvin Moss, who lent the journals to me on his costs. Besides: HCB preferred the 45 yr old coll Summicron to all the younger lenses, as I learnt from a recent posting; others (me included) prefer the 40 yr old rigid chrome Summicron to the current Summicron.
