The 21mm plastic VF was introduced in 1980. Admittedly, Leitz put their
name on it, not Leica, but machts nichts. Eighteen years is a LOT longer
than 10 years.

The plastic VF was introduced in response to a large volume of consumer
complaints about the ease with which the heavy metal VF's fell out of the
camera's accessory shoes.
