An astute comment, for sure. And try that with an incident meter. :-)

I can appreciate your experience of exposing without a meter. Edward Weston
did it all the time.

The main advantage of automatic exposure is to use it when appropriate.
Multimode meters and cameras are multi for a reason. There are times when
one is good, and when another is more appropriate.

Those who don't vary their shooting much don't need fancy stuff. Totally
manual simple cameras are just fine. But try photographing a variety of
things, portraits. sports, news, food, fashion, etc., and the multiple
talents of an R8 become obvious.
