According to the list on Erwin Puts's web site
(www.imx.nl/photosite/leica/m/lenses/listm.html) there were indeed four
Summicrons before the ASPH version:

Code 11308 (serial #s up to 2307450), 1958-69
Code 11309 (serial #s up to 2483503), 1969-71
Code 11309 (serial #s up to 2974250), 1971-79 (with internal thread)
Code 11310/11311 black/chrome (current)

According to Erwin, the difference between the 11309 and 11310 is a different
lenshood and slightly better quality wide open for the newer one.

I have the newer version 11309, and it was made in Canada. I do not know when
the switch took place.
