I have both an M-winder and the RapidWinder.

The M-winder (at least the one I have)
a. Changes the feel of the shutter release in an evil way.
b. Is quite noisy.
c. Seems huge and makes the feel of the camera odd.
In short, it's only useful for special work.

The Rapidwinder:
a. Does not change the silky feel of the release.
b. Is so small it seems to merge with the camera body.
c. Is much quieter than the motor. And you control when it makes noise.
d. If you are going *really fast* you must push on the body with your thumb
while pulling the level to keep the camera from rocking.
e. smells of oil, and while it has a very nice finish, isn't as nice as the
m-winder
    (we're talking cosmetics here.)
