Ray, As always with Leitz and Leica, it is not clear. I will say between 1 710 000 and 1 720 000. Black 1 710 838 is Solms (1986 nr) (Leica brochure 910 384 VII/88/DY/B) Black 1 726 790 is Solms (1987 nr) (Lager vol. II) Chrome 1 712 255 is Wetzlar (1987 nr) But the change normally occurred in 1988. And the first 1988 number allocated to a M6 that year is 1 738 451 !! You see what I mean... The first M6s from Solms were engraved with 'M6' on the front instead of 'LEICA M6', and 'Leica GMBH' on the back instead of 'Leica Camera GMBH' after that, and now 'Leica Camera'only. Lucien
